Lead Trainer – Utility Construction
Location: Greensboro / Winston-Salem, NC
Compensation: $125,000–$150,000 base salary + extensive bonus opportunity and profit-sharing potential

Position Summary
A leading utility construction contractor backed by billion-dollar corporate resources is seeking an experienced Lead Trainer to oversee and enhance its workforce development initiatives in North Carolina. This is a high-impact opportunity to join a rapidly growing organization supporting a $200M+ project pipeline with Duke Energy and play a critical role in developing the next generation of utility construction professionals.
Based out of an established training facility in the Greensboro/Winston-Salem area, the Lead Trainer will be responsible for designing, delivering, and improving technical and safety training programs for field personnel. This individual will work closely with operations leadership to ensure employees are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and certifications necessary to execute high-quality utility construction work safely and efficiently.
The ideal candidate will have deep field experience within the electrical utility industry and a passion for coaching, mentoring, and developing craft professionals, foremen, and future leaders.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage training initiatives for utility construction personnel across multiple skill levels.
- Develop, deliver, and continuously improve classroom and hands-on training programs focused on safety, technical skills, and operational excellence.
- Support onboarding and development programs for new hires, apprentices, and experienced field personnel.
- Train employees on overhead distribution construction practices, equipment operation, safe work procedures, and industry standards.
- Partner with Operations, Safety, and Field Leadership to identify training needs and close skill gaps.
- Maintain a strong focus on safety culture, quality standards, productivity, and employee development.
- Evaluate employee performance and provide coaching, feedback, and development recommendations.
- Create structured learning paths to support career progression from entry-level craft roles through leadership positions.
- Coordinate hands-on demonstrations, practical evaluations, and competency assessments.
- Ensure training programs align with company policies, customer expectations, OSHA requirements, and utility industry best practices.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives as the organization scales its operations.
- Maintain training records, certifications, and employee development documentation.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive experience in the electrical utility construction industry.
- Prior experience as a Foreman, General Foreman, Superintendent, Training Manager, or similar field leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of overhead distribution construction, utility safety practices, and field operations.
- Demonstrated ability to train, mentor, and develop field personnel.
- Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage employees at all levels.
- Proven ability to create a positive learning environment while maintaining high performance standards.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing formal training programs within utility construction.
- Previous experience working with investor-owned utilities or large utility contractors.
- Familiarity with apprenticeship programs, skills assessments, and competency-based training.
- OSHA, NCCER, or other recognized industry training certifications.
- Experience supporting rapid organizational growth and workforce expansion.
